Overview
In Rise, your account follows an Organization β Teams hierarchy. The Organization is your top-level account β it holds your funds and controls your overall structure.
β
βTeams/Accounts are sub-accounts nested underneath it, each with its own balance, members, and payment workflows.
You may want to create a new team to:
Separate contractors and employees into different groups (e.g. by department, region, or entity)
Manage multiple payroll programs independently
Keep payment activity, documents, and balances isolated per team
π‘ Good to know: Payments to contractors and employees always happen at the Team level, not the Organization level. The Organization is used to deposit and distribute funds to your teams.
Who Can Create a Team?
Only Organization Owners and Account Admins have permission to create new teams. If you don't see the option described below, check with your Organization Owner to confirm your role.
How to Create a New Team
Step 1: Go to the Organization Level
Log in to your Rise account
In the left-hand sidebar, click the account selector at the bottom left.
Select your Organization (not a specific team) to switch to the Organization-level view.
Step 2: Navigate to Organization Teams
From the Organization dashboard, click the Teams tab in the left sidebar.
Select Organization Teams. You'll see a list of all your existing teams here.
Step 3: Create the New Team
Click the "Create Team" button (top right of the Organization Teams page).
Fill in the required details:
Team Name β Choose a clear, descriptive name (e.g. "Engineering Contractors", "EU Payroll", "Sales Team").
Team Description (optional) β Add context for internal reference.
Click Confirm to create the team.
Your new team will now appear in the Organization Teams list and in your sidebar account selector.
What to Do After Creating a Team
A newly created team starts with a $0 balance and no members. Follow these steps to get it operational:
1. Fund the Team
Before any payments can be made, the team needs a balance. You have two options:
Transfer Balance β Move funds from your Organization or another team instantly. Go to Payroll β Transfer Balance, or use the Transfer Balance button in the top right header. This is the fastest option if you already have funds in Rise. See: How to Transfer Balance Between Accounts.
Deposit β Send a wire transfer directly to the new team's account. Go to the Deposit section within the team and follow the wire instructions. Always include the Memo Code shown on screen. See: How to Fund Your Rise Account.
2. Invite Members
Switch to your new team using the sidebar account selector, then click Invite Members in the top right corner of the dashboard. You can invite:
Contractors or Employees β to receive payments
Team Admins β to manage the team
Team Payment Initiators β to create payments pending Admin approval
Three invitation methods are available: Direct Invite (standard), Warm Invite (pre-filled profile), or Batch Warm Invite (bulk CSV upload). See: How to Invite Team Members on the New Rise.
3. Configure Team Settings
From within the team, go to Settings to configure:
Withdrawal Fee Coverage β Choose whether the team covers withdrawal fees for its contractors.
Anonymous onboarding and Invoice permissions β Managed at the Organization level under Settings β Configs β Platform. See: Learn More About Platform Settings.
4. Set Up Payroll
If this team will include employees on a payroll program (US EOR or UK EOR), you'll need to set up a payroll program before adding employees. See: How to Set Up Your First Payroll Program.
Managing Multiple Teams
You can switch between teams at any time using the account selector in the bottom left of the sidebar.
Each team has its own independent balance, member list, payment history, and documents.
Keep a buffer in your Organization account so you can quickly transfer funds to any team that needs topping up before a pay cycle.
Use the Organization Teams view to get a high-level summary of all teams at once.
How to Archive (Delete) a Team
If you no longer need a team, you can archive it from Teams β Organization Teams. Click the ">" button next to the team, scroll to Archive Team, and confirm.
β οΈ Archiving is irreversible. It permanently removes the team from active use and removes all payments and relationships associated with it. Make sure to transfer any remaining balance out before archiving. See: How to Delete/Archive a Team.
