On Rise, payment processing follows a maker-checker model — the person who creates a payment isn't always the one who authorizes it. If you want a team member to execute payments on your behalf, you need to assign them the Team Admin role.
Understanding the Two Manager Roles
Role | What they can do |
Team Payment Initiator | Can invite payees and create payment intents — but cannot execute or authorize payments. All payments they create require a Team Admin to approve first. |
Team Admin | Full access to the team workspace. Can invite users, authorize and execute payments, and update team settings. |
If your team member can only send payments to PayIntent but not execute them, they are currently a Team Payment Initiator and need to be upgraded to Team Admin.
How to Update an Existing Team Member's Role
Go to your Team workspace on the Rise platform
Navigate to the People / Members section
Find the team member whose role you want to update
Click on their profile and select Edit Role
Change their role to Team Admin
Save the changes
⚠️ Only Organization Owners and existing Team Admins can update roles. If you don't see this option, contact your Organization Owner.
How to Invite a New Team Admin
If the person isn't on your team yet:
Go to your Team workspace and click Invite Members
Select Team Admin from the role dropdown
Enter their email address and send the invite
