Rise uses a maker-checker model for payments — meaning the person who creates a payment isn't always the one who authorizes it. To support this, Rise offers three distinct account-level manager roles, each with a specific set of permissions designed to give you control over who can do what on your account.
This guide explains what each role can and cannot do, and how to choose the right one for each team member.
Role Overview
🔑 Account Admin
Full access — the most powerful role on the platform.
✅ Can sign and execute transactions (authorize payments)
✅ Can create payment intents
✅ Can send all invite types — managers, contractors, and employees
Best for: Organization owners and trusted team leads who need complete control over payments and team management.
💼 Finance Admin
Focused on payment authorization — can execute payments but cannot initiate them.
✅ Can sign and execute transactions (authorize payments)
✅ Can send manager-role invites
❌ Cannot create payment intents
❌ Cannot invite contractors or employees directly
Best for: Finance team members who need to approve and execute payments prepared by others, without being able to initiate them.
📋 Payment Initiator
Focused on payment creation and team onboarding — can create payments and invite payees, but cannot authorize or execute them.
✅ Can create payment intents
✅ Can invite contractors and employees directly
✅ Can cancel scheduled payments
✅ Can see deposit/funds
❌ Cannot sign or execute transactions
❌ Cannot send manager-role invites
Best for: Operations or HR team members who manage contractor onboarding and prepare payments for approval — without needing transaction-signing authority.
Quick Comparison
Permission | Account Admin | Finance Admin | Payment Initiator |

Which Role Should I Assign?
Need someone to handle everything? → Account Admin
Need someone to approve and execute payments, but not create them? → Finance Admin
Need someone to onboard contractors and queue up payments for approval? → Payment Initiator
Need someone to both invite contractors AND create payment intents, but not execute payments? → Payment Initiator
⚠️ Note: There is currently no single role that combines the ability to both create payment intents AND execute transactions, without also having full Account Admin access. If you need this combination, the Account Admin role is required.
