How to Create a Passkey on Rise V2

Passkeys are a secure and easy way to log in.

Updated this week

Please note that Passkeys are available for use on V2 of the Rise product only. Rise Security Keys are part of our V1 product. Any articles referring to the Rise Security Key (RSK) are referring to V1. If you're not sure which version you're on, contact our support team, and we'll be happy to help.

Passkeys are a secure way to log in without a password. They can be stored on your device, in your browser, or within a password manager.

Instead of typing out a long string of characters (which can be stolen or forgotten), a passkey uses the security features already built into your device—like your fingerprint (Touch ID), face scan (Face ID), or screen lock PIN.

If you’ve created and saved your passkey on a device, keep in mind it can only be used on that same device. If you lose the device, you’ll lose the passkey too and will need to go through the recovery process.

How it works

  1. Creation: When you create a passkey, your device generates a unique cryptographic key pair.

  2. Storage:

    • The Private Key stays safely on your device and is never shared with anyone (not even Rise).

    • The Public Key is sent to Rise's server.

  3. Logging In: When you try to sign in, Rise asks your device to "solve a puzzle" using the Private Key. You unlock your device (with Face ID/Fingerprint/screen lock PIN) to approve it. If the puzzle is solved correctly, you are logged in.

Why is it better than a password?

  • Anti-Phishing: Since the private key never leaves your device, a hacker cannot "steal" your passkey by tricking you into typing it on a fake website.

  • Convenience: You don't have to remember complex passwords like P@ssw0rd123!.

  • Speed: It's as fast as unlocking your phone.

Here’s how to set it up:

Go to https://app.riseworks.io and log in using your email address and password (or your usual sign-in credentials).

Once you're signed in, complete the onboarding steps. You will be prompted to create your secure Passkey.

Your device will prompt you to verify using your built-in authentication method (like Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, or device PIN).

Follow the prompts to confirm and save the passkey.

You can now log in to Rise using your passkey—just choose the “Sign in with passkey” option and use your device’s login method. Fast, secure, and no password to remember.

As an optional method, after you create your Rise ID and passkey, you can add your web3 wallet to have the same permissions as your passkey. This way, if you don’t have access to your primary device, you can still use your web3 wallet to sign and approve all your transactions.
