How to Set Up Your Passkey on Rise

Learn what a passkey is, how to create one during Rise onboarding, and what to do if you lose it.

What Is a Passkey?

A passkey is a secure, passwordless way to confirm it's really you when managing your funds or making changes to your Rise account. Instead of typing a password, you authenticate using your device's built-in security — such as Face ID, Touch ID, a fingerprint reader, or a PIN.

Passkeys are more secure than passwords because they're tied directly to your device and can't be reused or stolen through phishing.

Before You Begin

A few important things to know before creating your passkey:

  • It's connected to your hardware. Your passkey is saved to the specific device (or password manager) you choose during setup.

  • It can't be used on another device. If you switch devices, you'll need to set up a new passkey or recover your account.

  • If you lose it, you'll need to recover. Keep access to the device or account you saved it to — see the "Lost Your Passkey?" section below.

How to Set Up Your Passkey

Step 1 — Click "Set up passkey"

During onboarding, click the Set up passkey button in the bottom-right corner.

Step 2 — Review the passkey details

A confirmation dialog will appear summarizing the key facts about your passkey. Click Continue when ready.

Step 3 — Choose where to save your passkey

Your browser or operating system will prompt you to choose where to store the passkey. Common options include:

  • This device saves the passkey locally to your computer (Windows, Mac, etc.)

  • A password manager — such as iCloud Keychain, Microsoft Password Manager, or 1Password

  • A security key — a physical USB or NFC security key (e.g. YubiKey)

  • Another device — such as your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone (scanned via QR code)

Note: Saving passkeys to a phone or tablet may also require Bluetooth pairing for verification.

Choose the option that works best for your setup. If you're unsure, saving to the current device you are using is the simplest option.

Step 4 — Authenticate to confirm

Complete the authentication your device requests — this may be a PIN, fingerprint, Face ID, or Touch ID, depending on your device. This confirms your identity and saves the passkey.

Once complete, you'll be moved to the next step in onboarding automatically.

Using Your Passkey

After setup, Rise will use your passkey to confirm your identity when you:

  • Sign your agreements and documents

  • Authorize transactions

  • Make security changes to your account

When prompted, simply authenticate the same way you did during setup (PIN, fingerprint, Face ID, etc.).

Tip: When signing documents, make sure to select the passkey that includes your Rise identifier (shown in the prompt). Selecting the wrong passkey will result in an error.

Lost Your Passkey?

If you lose access to the device or account where your passkey is stored, you won't be able to authenticate with it. To recover access to your Rise account, contact the Rise support team:

  • Live Chat: available on the Rise website

Have your account email address ready when you reach out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my passkey on multiple devices?

Not directly — passkeys are tied to the device or password manager you saved them to. If you saved your passkey to a cloud-based password manager (like iCloud Keychain or Microsoft Password Manager), it may sync across your devices automatically. If you saved it locally to one device, it will only work on that device.

What if the passkey prompt doesn't appear?

Make sure your browser is up to date, as passkey support requires a modern browser. If the issue persists, try refreshing the page or using a different browser. If it still doesn't work, contact Rise support.

Is my passkey shared with Rise?

No. Your passkey stays on your device. Rise only receives a cryptographic confirmation that the authentication was successful — your private key never leaves your device.
