How do I fix 'Invalid Security Key' errors or similar security key issues in Rise?

How to handle with Rise Security Key common errors.

Updated this week

Encountering "Invalid Security Key" errors or related issues can be frustrating. These problems typically arise during account setup, money transfers, withdrawals, or when accessing your account. Below is a comprehensive guide to identify and resolve these errors.

Your RSK (Rise Security Key) is a password that you generate, consisting of 18-42 characters, including at least one unique character (!@#$%^&*_+) and at least one number, during the onboarding process. This unique key will serve as your approval mechanism within Rise

Common Causes and General Troubleshooting

1. Check for Correct Password Format

The "invalid security key" error often occurs due to an incorrect password format:

  • Ensure the security key password is 18-42 characters, includes at least one special character and one number.

  • Verify that you’re not using your seed phrase instead of the security key password. The seed phrase is for recovery and differs in format.

2. Refresh, Retry, or Switch

  • Refresh the page or open it in an incognito window/private mode.

  • Switch browsers (e.g., from Firefox to Chrome, or vice versa).

  • Restart your device or switch from a mobile browser to a desktop/laptop.

  • Clear your browser’s cache and cookies for the Rise site.

3. Verify Network and Device Setup

  • Disable VPN: VPNs can interfere with the validation process.

  • Switch networks: Try using mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, or vice versa.

  • For mobile issues, switch to a desktop or laptop.

Troubleshooting Specific Scenarios

1. Fix Key Issues During Account Setup

If you’re unable to proceed with setup because the security key was not received:

  • Switch browsers or devices.

  • Disable VPN or try connecting to a different network (e.g., mobile data).

If setup still fails, confirm you meet all security key requirements for strength and format.

2. Resolve "Invalid Security Key" During Withdrawals

Steps to Resolve:

  1. Verify you are entering the correct security key password, not the seed phrase.

  2. Recheck the password format (18–42 characters, includes special characters).

  3. Troubleshoot using the general steps listed above (refresh, incognito, network/device switching).

  4. If unresolved, recover your security key password using the seed phrase. - Navigate to Profile > Security > Recovery Security Key. - Enter your recovery phrase and follow instructions to reset the password.

After resetting, try the withdrawal again using your newly reset security key password.

3. "Failed to Fetch Key" Errors

These errors typically occur due to local device or browser issues.

  • Refresh the browser or retry in incognito mode.

  • Clear the cache/cookies and restart the session.

  • Switch to a new device or network.

4. Forgotten Security Key Password

If you've forgotten your password, recover it following these steps:

  1. Go to Profile > Security.

  2. Click Recovery Security Key.

  3. Enter your seed phrase (the 12-word recovery phrase created during setup). This will reset the key and create a new password for account access.

By following these steps, most issues related to security key errors can be resolved. For persistent challenges, consider contacting support for further assistance.
